20th Annual Tree Of Light Draws Over 700 Attendees

BRIDGEPORT—More than 700 residents from 11 southern Connecticut cities and towns remembered lost loved ones during Visiting Nurse Services (VNS) of Connecticut’s 20th Annual Tree of Light ceremonies held on December 9th. The event, which featured non-denominational remembrance programs in each participating community, surpassed last year’s totals in both the number of attendees and the more than $44,000 raised to support VNS Hospice at Home™ end-of-life services for needy families in the region. Participants purchased colored lights to adorn memorial trees in Bridgeport, Easton, Fairfield, Huntington/Shelton, Milford, Monroe, Oxford Southport, Stratford, Trumbull and Westport.

For the first time in the 20 year history of the Tree of Light event, the event’s Benefactor, People’s United Bank, hosted the Bridgeport ceremony in their beautiful new banking branch on Main Street, where a record number of people attended.

This year’s Tree of Light program was underwritten by Elizabeth M. Pfriem. Along with the new Benefactor, People’s United Bank, the program was supported by Event Sponsor GE, along with Bridgeport Hospital and Beardsley, Brown & Bassett. ENCON was this year’s Stratford Town Sponsor, while Acme Printing and Hearst Connecticut Media Group were Tree of Light Media Sponsors.
